Green flash at sunset. Setting Sun with the green flash phenomenon forming at the top of the solar disc. Green flash is an optical phenomenon that occurs when the atmosphere causes the light from the sun to separate out into different colours, with green being the most commonly observed colour. The distorted shape of the Sun is due to atmospheric refraction of the sunlight. Photographed over the Atacama Desert in northern Chile.
