A traditional Navajo hogan at the Canyon de Chelly Visitor Centre, Arizona. A multi-sided cribbed log house used for domestic & ceremonial purposes. The wood and mud walls & domed earth roof keep the house cool in summer & retain heat in winter. In accordance with traditional Navajo beliefs hogan doorways must always face east.
