St John the Baptist's Church in Chester, Cheshire, England was reputedly founded by King Aethelred in 689. After his coronation at Bath in 973, King Edgar of England, came to Chester to hold court in a palace near the old Dee bridge in Handbridge. He was travelled the short distance up the River Dee to St John the Baptist's Church rowed by six tributary kings. After the Dissolution, St John's became a parish church.
