To furnish without cost fight refresh-ments, smokes, newspapers, post cards,shower baths, recreation grounds, medicalsuppfies and generally to aid in the com-fort and w(;lfaro of the m(;n while trav-eling. When refjuesfcul in advance; by wire, toprocure all kinds of supplies at (;ost andaccept pay for same from the command- coast to coast, as well as from Canada tothe Rio Grande. In nearly aU cases theyare located at railroad depots where trooptrains stop to change engines or would becompelled to wait. These points havebeen selected that the canteens mayrender their services while the train is atrest, thus utifizing what otherwise wouldbe waste time. I
