He married Miss KateHoffman, of Dutch (Holland) extraction,whose people were among the pioneer settlersof Wyoming valley. Among their childrenwas a son, Edward. Edward Mackin, father of Dennis , was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsyl-vania, February 27, 1840. He is a prominentcoal operator, having been identified with the-Delaware & Hudson Company for a periodof fiftv-three years, forty vears of that time-. I. E. He was a staunch Democrat, andworked earnestly and untiringly toward ad-vancing the interests of that organization. He-now (1906) resides in the city of his birth,Wilkes-Barre, retired from active businesslife. (See sketch elsewhere).) He married MissAlary Dowling, a native of Luzerne county,and of their children five are living: CharlesE., Dennis Dr. Thomas H, Mrs. SarahMoore and Florence. Dennis A. Mackin, son of Edward andMary (Dowling) Mackin, was reared and ed-ucated in the common schools of his nativeplace. He subsequently entered the Wyo-ming Seminary, spending two and a halfyears there, being a graduate of the commer-cial department of that institution.
