Members of the honour guard look on as pilots stand to attention aboard the Chinese Naval assault ship Chang Bai Shan at Portsmouth Royal Navy Base today. The ship is involved in the first visit by the Chinese Navy to the UK since 2007 and the largest ever. She is accompanied by the frigate Yun Cheng and the replenishment ship Chaohu. The ships arrived in Portsmouth 24 hours early due to the expected bad weather. The Royal Navy statement stated that the five day formal visit is aimed at enhancing military understanding between the UK and China. Picture date Monday 12th January, 2015.
