Number or The following brands have shown a commercial shortage of $1 or over per ton, values of overruns being used in all cases to reduce the shortages: — Alphano Humus Co. — Prepared Alphano Humus, No. 955: nitrogen found, per cent, guaranteed, per cent; total phosphoric acid found, .59 per cent, guaranteed, .50 per cent; potassium oxide found, .04 per cent, guaranteed, .50 per cent. Upon the receipt of the advanced report of this analysis, the company requested that other samples be drawn and tested for potash as they felt confident that the average of this brand shipped into the State contained the minimum potash guaranteed. Two other samples were therefore secured and both showed serious deficiencies in potash, one testing .07 per cent and the other .08 per cent of actual potash. The explanation given by the company with reference to the shortage in potash shown in all of these samples was that the wood ashes which they were obliged to purchase and use as their potash source must have been leached. They furnished the information that hereafter nothing but potash salts would be used in furnish- ing the potash supplied in their material.
