The Great Hall of Oakham Castle and All Saints Church Oakham, Rutland, England, UK.

Photo shows the front of the Great Hall of Oakham Castle on the right with the tower of All Saints Church in the distance on the left. The Great Hall dates from around 1190 and is one of the finest examples of Norman secular architecture of the period in England. An old custom decrees that every peer of the realm, on setting foot in Oakham for the first time, must present a horseshoe to be hung inside the castle. The custom has been followed for at least 500 years and as a result there are around 240 ornate horseshoes hanging on the walls inside.
