This grate consists of a series of superposed troughs, a, a, a, containing the liquid fuel, the discharge of which is regulatedby small basins, r, r, r, that communicate withthe troughs at b, b. Through the basins passdischarge pipes, T, T, T, open at each ex-tremity. All the parts of the grate are of ironcast in a piece, and comprising no movablejoint. The oil enters the top trough and over-flows through the tube, T, to the next, and so on through the last overflow to a receiving tank. In this manner all the troughs are kept at constant level.
