Damascus, Syria. Old wooden furniture in the Azem Palace (Bait Al-'Azem), now the Museum of Popular Arts and Tradition.
The Azem Palace is the largest Ottoman residence in the Old City of Damascus. It was built in the 18th century by Assad Pasha Al-'Azem, a governor of Damascus, and remained in the Azem family for many generations. The striped stone walls are built in a typical Damascene style known as ablaq. It is now a Museum.
