Gaziantep, Turkey. 01 May 2022. Syrian grandfather Kamal Khatib plays with his grandchild at a playground in Gaziantep. Kamal and his son Bashir were separated as Kamal fled the war to take refuge in Jordan. It was only 10 years later, when Kamal was able to travel to Turkey to seek treatment for his very aggressive form of cancer, that he reunited with his son, now living in Turkey with his wife and two young children. The event highlights the tragedy of the war in Syria, with Syrians trapped in a never-ending conflict causing them huge losses, displacement, and immense suffering
