The floods in Toll Bar near Doncaster, South Yorkshire, UK
The village of Toll Bar near Doncaster, South Yorkshire was one of many places hit by unprecedented floods in June 2007, after 5 inches of rain fell in 24 hours. The village was cut off for over a week and the summer floods hit thousands of people and cost the government and insurance industry £billions. Global warming is likely to lead to far more frequent extreme weather events like this , with low lying areas becoming increasingly vulnerable. Man will have to learn to adapt.
