Primary standard force balance. This machine enables the calibration of force-measuring equipment through the application of a highly accurate, specific force. The measured value can then be checked against the known value and any necessary adjustments to the apparatus can be made. This balance (centre left) is inside a cabinet, which is closed whilst measurements are being taken, to prevent environmental conditions from affecting the readings.
