E. {Eodesmoceras) and E. {Miodesmoceras). Miodesmoceras is a Barremian form, distinguished from Eodesmoceras in being more compressed and in lacking constrictions, whilst the latter is considered of Valanginian- Lower Hauterivian age. Eodesmoceras haughtoni Spath from the Uitenhage Group lacks constrictions, and is much more compressed than the type of E. {Eodesmoceras) celestini (Pictet & Campiche). Consequently, the differences between these two subgenera blurr and they appear to be of little taxonomic use.
