It had been about thirty years since the veteran BeeHunter had trailed the little free-booters to their hiddenhoards on Mt. Hymettus in the Slabsides country,and now, as in his boyhood, he was to seek a bee-tree onhis native heath. Armed with a small tin pail, and a bottle containingsweetened vinegar, John C. leads the way. We clamberover a stone wall, and climbing a stony pasture, reachan open sunny clearing in the woods. Here, finding a beeat work on some asters, John C. sweeps it into his pail,which already contains a cluster of aster blooms besmearedwith the sweetened lure. Quickly covering the pail, hesets it on a boulder, and after giving the captive time togorge himself, removes the lid
