John Islip (1464–1532) was abbot of the monastery of Westminster, London. He was 36 years old he was made abbot on 27th October 1500 and was a friend of both Henry VII and Henry VIII, becoming a Privy Councillor. Seen here in the early 16th Century, receiving from King Henry VII the Book of Independence which specified the number of masses on the occasion of a Royal Death.
