Lakshadweep consists of 12 atolls, 3 reefs and 5 submerged banks, with a total of 32 islands which belong to India It is the smallest union territory of India. The group is located 200 to 300 km off of the coast of Kerala in the Arabian first westerner on the islands was Vasco da Gama, but the British were the first to explore the islands. Bangaram is enclosed by a scenic lagoon about 10kms long by six km wide. The lagoon is very deep with here and there are of corals growing up to the surface, Originally, this island was in the hands of the people of Agatti. But it was confiscated by the Bibi of Cannanore in 1764 as a punishment for the murder of an Accountant stationed there. in 1928 The Madras Government divided the island into plots and leased out to small cultivators.
