General Gillem, on the 28th of October, attackedand completely routed a Confederate force under Yaughan andPalmer, capturing four hundred men and four guns ; but, while rejoic-ing over this victory, was in turn surprised at night by Breckinbridge,on the 13th of October, and utterly routed, losing his battery-train, andalmost all his arms.
