17/11/14 Terry Ingram works to remove fibre glass and silicon rubber that will become the mould for an eight ft statue depicting the famous truce when German and British soldiers stopped fighting to play a game of football in no-man's land 100 years ago this Christmas Day. Sculpted by Andrew Edwards, the giant sculpture will be a full-size version of the original maquette bronze that was place outside the Football Association's training ground at St George's Park. Initially the statue will be made from fibreglass, and will begin a tour of Britain, Germany and Belgium leaving Liverpool on December 19th. Andrew and his team from the Castle Fine Arts Foundry plan to take the statue to Messen in Flanders, the location of the original WW1 game, where they will play a game of football on Christmas morning. The art work is being created at the Wedgewood factory in near Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire. It shows a North Staffordshire Battalion soldier about to shake hands with a 133rd Royal Saxon German soldier. The finished piece will see a football placed on a plinth that links figures. Andrew Edwards, who wants to find a permanent location for a bronze copy of the sculpture by Christmas next year said: "What better way to commemorate football creating peace".
