Snout obtusely pointed, 2£ to 3 times as long as eye, which is contained 6 or 7 times in length of head, and directed upwards ; interorbital region flat or slightly concave, 2^ to 3 times in length of head; no nostril, but two nasal tentacles on each side, not measuring more than £ diameter of eye. Dorsal rounded, 9-10. Anal rounded, 8-9, opposite dorsal. Fig. Tetrodon miurus. Type (A. M. C). Pectoral rounded-subtruncate, a little more than ^ length of head. Caudal rounded, -£, or a little more than -J-, length of head. Caudal peduncle little longer than deep, not more than | length of head. Head and body with minute spines, except on snout and on caudal region; lateral-line system represented by very distinct furrows.
