Pollination. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a pollen grain (pink) on the stigma (tip of the orange projections) of a flower. Together with the ovary (not seen), which holds the eggs, and they style, the projection (orange) between the stigma and ovary, the stigma forms the female reproductive organ (pistil). Eventually, a pollen tube emerge from the grain. The pollen tube contains the male gametes (sex cells). It grows down the style and into the ovary, where the tip of the pollen tube rupture, releasing the gametes to fertilize the ovule (female sex cell) and produce seeds.
