The presence ofthis pin in the whorl seems rather to corroborate my opinion,that ail the whorls served as votive offerings to AtheneErgane, the tutelary deity of Troy. Of gold there was found in the temple A only a verysmall and simple unornamented frontlet, and a staff orsceptre knob with a geometrical ornamentation in rcpoiiss^.
