Shumway, Melrose. They have some grand specimen plants of colons. At the Harvard Botanic Gardens Kobert Cameron is busy putting concrete benches in some of his greenhouses. An interesting addition outside here is a new rockery. Seedling rock plants have been raised in large numbers. A. S. Parker, of Stoneham, one of our most successful aster specialists, started last week to cut from an acre of extra fine plants. These have large flowers and long stems and come in at a time when flowers from other growers are on the wane. Flower trade in Boston and vicinity was somewhat adversely aflfected by the Jewish holidays September 20 to 22. This kept quite a few buyers away from the markets. At H. E. Comley's, on Park street, Bouvardia Humboldtii is well displayed. Mr. Comley seems to have nearly the entire output of this beautiful flower this season. Colchicums in bloom in square earthenware pans are selling well. A. H. Hews & Co., of North Cam- bridge, report pot trade as brisk and they are having hard work to keep abreast of their orders. At the last meeting of the Gardeners' and Florists' Club William Sim gave it as his opinion that from October 12 to 15 was usually a good time in Massa- chusetts to house single violets. W. N. Craig.
