The new year broufjlit ;i marked change in tlic condition of the flower business in the way of scarcity of stock, esjiecially roses. Dark, cloudy weather has held the cut down, and the wholesalers find it difficult to get enough stock to take care of their orders. The prices of long and medium roses have dropped a little, while those of the short grades are still up. Ophelia, Columbia, Dunlop and Iloosier have the big call, at .$12 to $40' per hundred, while other varieties go at $10 to $35 per hundred. The price of carnations is down con- siderably, ranging from $6 to $10 per hundred, with $15 for Laddie. Sweet peas are still scarce at $2 to $3 per hundred. Ilome-grown
