Visitors having afternoon tea on the lawn next to a tea room of Buckingham Street is the historic gold mining town of Arrowtown in Otago, New Zealand. Arrowtown was named after the nearby Arrow River, once a rich source of gold extracted from the River Arrow. It attracted thousands, mainly from China in pursuit of their fortune in 1862. At the height of the gold rush, the population grew to 7,000. These days, Arrowtown attracts visitors as it retains its old-world charm and its many original pioneer buildings.
