Marcus Aurelius' Column
Marcus Aurelius was the Roman emperor from 161 to 180. Whether the column dedicated to him was built in the emperor's lifetime or after is not certain, but it was modeled on Trajan's column, both of which were in Rome. Marcus Aurelius' originally stood in the Campus Martius and now stands in the Piazza Colonna. The reliefs tell of the emperor's military campaigns along the Danube. The photo, showing a detail of the spiral relief, dates to the early 1900s.
