He received his educational training in the public schools of hisnative city and began work as messenger boy for the firm of B. 81 when he was only nine years old, and remained in their em-ploy for twenty years. His capacity and fidelity secured him repeatedpromotions. He then accepted the position of lock tender on the ErieCanal, holding it for five years, when he engaged in business as a gro-cer. He was successful from the start, and has built up a flourishingtrade. He belongs to the C. M. B. A. and to the Washington Hose Com-pany, of Lockport.
