The castle itself was built in 1446 by Dermot McCarthy and it attracts tourists from all over the world to come to see and kiss the Blarney Stone. To do so is a long-standing tradition said to provide those kiss the stone with inrivaled eloquence. The stone is in a wall below the battlements, and to kiss it requires being suspended outside the wall and extending below the parapet access it.
