Light micrograph (illumination by bright field & oblique Spectral-Rheinberg contrast) of multicellular trichomes, or leaf hairs, on the surface of a sepal (calyx) of the Red Campion flower Lychnis dioica. The calyx is the outermost whorl of the flower enclosing the petals & the reproductive structures. Its function appears to be protective. Magnification X 200 (at 35mm size).
