Without entering at present upon the qualitiesof this particular pair of birds (which are life-like representations of two 14 TEE CHINA FOWL. specimens imported by T. S. Cooper, Esq., of Coopersburg, Perm., from Eng-land, lately), we will only say here that we point to that portraiture as avery perfect delineation of the naturally-foxmed better than ordinary type ofpure Chinese poultry, whose characteristics, in their original condition, wewill now describe in detail, as our long experience with this race has taughtus to see the genuine Shanghae stock in America. We write the term Shanghae here advisedly, for the simple reason thatalmost all the known importations of these notable fowls came into theUnited States originally from the port of Shanghae, China, and for yearswere thus denominated
