Another interesting circumstance which would de-serve to bring Iowa College into particular mentionhas been the successful production of the first Greekplay ever produced in the West. Iowa College is aco-educational institution, with some five hundred ormore students in all its departments, of whom abouttwo hundred and fifty are in the four regular collegeclasses, while the remainder are to be found in a two-years preparatory department, in the conservatory of 176 THE REVIEW OF music, which is one of the departments of the insti-tution, and in special studies not so arranged as togive class rank. The graduating class at the recentcommencement in June numbered forty. The num-ber of young women attending the college is almostas large as that of the young men, although it is con-siderably smaller in the regular college classes;whereas it is much larger in the musical and specialdepartments. The play given by the Iowa College students onJune 10 last was the * Electra of Sophocles. It wasproduced by members of two literary societies, onecomposed of young men, the other of young college has been distinguished for the brilliantcharacter of its work in classical studies, and severalof its graduates have subsequently taken high rank asphilologists.
