The four curves in the upper part of Fig. 21 show the change in temperature from month to month of the water at the surface and at depths of 100, 400, and 600 m. They show that the annual range of surface temperature, at a station about 100 miles north of the convergence, is about 34° C: from 3-5° C in September to 6-9° C. at the end of February. In the deeper layers the annual range decreases, until at 600 m. it is about.
