Thepresent capacity of Drum. station is to be doubled andfive additional power-housesare to be constructed, andas the new units may beinstalled without a corre-sponding increase in invest-ment for dams, ditches andother hydraulic work, thetotal investment for horse-power as the work pro-gresses must decrease con-siderably. For instance, thenext section of the work tobe undertaken will doublethe power nowavailable but willadd only 22 percent to the presentinvestment. This istrue, perhaps, ofmost hydro-electricinstallations of thissize and character;at any rate, it is be-lieved that the ulti-mate cost of theSouth Yuba andBear river develop-ments will rankthem as the mosteconomical of theirtype and magnitudein the United States.
