Spinal implants in scoliosis. Coloured X-rays of the skeleton and spine of a 65-year-old woman with scoliosis who has had an operation to place spinal implants along the vertebral column. These X-rays (frontal at left; lateral at right) were taken as part of the post-surgical orthopaedic examination of the spine. Scoliosis is a sideways twisting of the spine, leading to spinal curvature. The treatment of scoliosis depends on the cause. Treatment ranges from corrective back braces to surgical intervention to straighten the spine.
