DIGITAL ART: Notabile Gate at Mdina, Malta
There are three gates allowing entrance into the city. The upper Mdina Gate, reconstructed in 1724 by Grand master de Vilhena, who was responsible for strengthening the city's fortifications, is a massive stone structure adorned with intricate sculptures and statues. Also known as Notabile Gate to denote that its former right of access was enjoyed solely by the Maltese nobility, it is still one of Mdina's major landmarks, though it is asking for urgent restoration.
