Martian landscape. This HiRISE image from Hesperia Planum, Mars, shows clays in the wall of this small (about 5km) crater, while the central mound has a different spectral character than the wall clays. This is one of the rare instances of such an occurrence and may suggest post-impact hydrothermal activity as opposed to pre-existing clays that are simply excavated during the cratering is about 5 km (3 mi) across.
