Old crane tower in the town walls, Torun, Pomerania, Poland.


Built by the Teutonic Knights in the 13 th century, it would have been used as a defensive security measure, allowing goods to be taken into the town through the town walls but without opening the gates. The former Hanseatic town was the birth Place of Mikolaj Kopernik (Nicolaus Copernicus) the famous astronomer.
