Theloss in cars was confined to about twenty-five single-truck. ■J HE KLJNS OF THE CTIlLAGu CAR HOUSE cars, of which ten were old cable trailers. The total losswas about $100,000. None of the new double-truck carsrecently purchased by the company were consumed. The fire started from an explosion of the Pintsch gas tanksused in charging the lighting systems of the old cable cars,and the flames spread so rapidly that theefforts of the firemen were confinedmainly to the saving of adjacent repairshops. The three bays which the firereached were used for the storage andinspection of cars and were entirely con-sumed, only the roof trusses of thenorthernmost bay and walls car houses were originally built forcable cars and were not provided withany automatic sprinkler system. Very little delay in the operation of thelines was occasioned by the fire, as divis-ions in other portions of the city wereeach called upon to furnish a few cars totake the place of those burned.
