He wasa director in many of the companies and financial institutions of Pittsburgh. Hewas vestryman of Trinity Episcopal Church, chairman of the building commit-tee, and for many years a worker in the Sunday school, the welfare of theyoung being an especial concern with him. He was a director of the DollarSavings Bank, and for many years was a member of the select and commoncouncils of Pittsburgh. He was one of the board of managers of the Houseof Refuge and of Dixmont Hospital, and an inspector of the Western Peniten-. •
