Air Force 2nd Lt. Brittney Ann Sturgis, a Ewa Beach, Hawaii native and officer in charge of the tactical operations center assigned to the 87th Medical Support Squadron stationed at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey, poses during a break at the state-led, federally-supported Community Vaccination Center (CVC) at the former Roosevelt High School in Gary, Indiana, May 2, 2021. Sturgis is part of a group of Air Force personnel assigned to the 2nd Detachment, 64th Air Expeditionary Group that will be supporting the vaccination efforts. Her main responsibility is assisting management and oversight of tactical operations including daily accountability, operational reports, and liaison with Army National Guard. “I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve in this capacity,” she said. “I feel like each shot we provide is one step closer to bringing families together and building communities again.” To Sturgis, helping the community means a lot to her and her family. With Asian Pacific American Heritage Month in mind, she said, “I see it as a true celebration of giving back to a country that has given my family so much.” Sturgis, who is an Asian American with an immigrant family, sees her role at the Gary CVC as the perfect opportunity to give back during the month of celebration for her culture. She wishes her family back home all her love. Northern Command, through Army North, remains committed to providing continued, flexible Department of Defense support to the Federal Emergency Management Agency as part of the whole-of-government response to COVID-19.
