The American author, Ernest Hemingway’s type writer placed on top of a thick book on a bookshelf in his bedroom at his home, ‘Finca La Vigia’, now a museum, in San Francisco de Paula, southeast of Havana city centre in Cuba. When Hemingway finally left the island in 1960, Mary donated the house and its 15 acres site to the nation. Everything in the house complete with furnishings, library, personal items and his fishing boat are left untouched to this day. Hemingway wrote two of his most celebrated novels: ‘For Whom the Bell Tolls’ and ‘The Old Man and the Sea’. ‘A Movable Feast’ was written there as well.
