Oxford Pubs. The Eagle and Child on St. Giles has become a tourist destination, having been the meeting place of the 'Inklings'; literary enthusiasts including J R R Tolkein (author of Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit) and C S Lewis (author of The Chronicles of Narnia) who used to meet here on Tuesdays between the years 1930 and 1949 to drink smoke and discuss.
