Soldier Lt. Hargan of the Signal Corps participated in a body armor test during World War One. The armor, weighing 27 lbs, was made of chrome-nickel-vanadium steel. It was subjected to rifle fire at 200 yards, resulting in only a small dent and no penetration. Testing continued with a .45 caliber pistol at 15 and 25 yards, with no effect on the armor. The test was conducted at the Ordinance Department in Port de la Peigney, Langres, France. Officially released by the AEF Censor on January 7, 1919.
