The fellows who were notwrithing in the clutches of sea sickness spent most of theirtime on deck, and while they were out of sight of land muchof the time, yet they could find more amusement and goodair above than in their quarters, and besides could enjoythe privilege of smoking on deck. The band played everyevening, while the boys grouped around listening, andchatting and smoking. On the third afternoon out, the men were put throughsetting up exercises below, and when they came on deckagain, they were greeted with their first sight of the Cubancoast. It was so hot and close under decks when all of themen were turned in for the night that quite a few who werelight sleepers found it unbearable, so they would make theirway up on deck and sleep out the rest of the night underNatures canopy.
