Tail short; subcaudal scales in 2 rows, orpartly single, partl}^ in 2 rows. (1) E. f^urinamensis.—Seven supralabials, of which the fourthenters the eye ; frontal shield very narrow; 1(57—182 ventrals. Colour red, with black annuli disposed in threes (the middle onebroader), separated by narrow yellow interspaces; 7 or 8 sets ofannuli on the body ; the red scales dotted with black ; head redabove, with the shields black-edged, followed l)y a black cross-bandbehind the parietals.
