UNITED STATES: August 7, 2018: Philip Carter Strother owner and operator of Philip Carter Winery in Hume Virginia poses for a photo in his vineyard. The Carter family has deep roots in Virginia wine making with the date of the official validation by Royal Governor Francis Fauquier on August 6, 1763. This is when the governor issued the certification that the Carter family was successfully growing a vineyard of European vines at Cleve located in Virginia. It was witnessed by some of the most prominent members of Virginia society at the time. Fifteen Virginia wineries have gotten together to create a unique blend of wine in celebration of the state's 400th year of wine making. (Douglas Graham/Wild Light Photos)
