Illustration of a Australopithecus garhi hominin male. A. garhi lived around million years ago during the Pleistocene in Eastern Africa. It is known from a cranium, skull fragments and partial skeleton found in 1996. Stone tools and animal bones with cut marks were found nearby. The Australopithecus hominins form an early part of the human evolutionary tree.
