Asif Kapadia's Graduation film from the Royal College of Art, The Sheep Thief, a 23 min drama shot in India, won the Grand Prix at the European Short Film Festival in Brest and the Best Direction Prize at the Poitiers Film Festival. It has also been screened at the London Film Festival, Clermont-Ferrand, New York, Texas [Best Cinematography Award] and Cork international Film Festivals. The Sheep Thief was televised on the Shooting Gallery by Channel Four [Special Mention for Screenplay]. and will soon be screened at the Oberhausen, Tel Aviv, and Cannes International Film His RCA film The Waiting Room won the Royal Television Society Student Award for London. It was shortlisted for Best European Short in Brest and screened at the British and Munich Short Film His first foray into commercials, Wild West, for Colgate Toothpaste, won the Kodak Best Student Commercial Award as well as receiving the Special Jury Prize. Asif is represented by Smith, Jones, Brown & Cassie as a commercials director, he recently completed his first cinema commercial for Hell Lager. He is represented by The Oil Factory for music In 1994 Asif graduated with First Class Honours from the University of Westminster where he specialised in screenwriting. It was here he wrote and directed Indian Tales which won the Gold Plaque at the Chicago International Film Festival. It was also screened at the New York, Toronto, Yale and British Short Film Festivals. The film was televised by British and Canadian Asif Kapadia. Film Director. Asif has directed insert films for the BBC and was a producer/ director of drama and documentaries for Carlton Television on Shift. He directed over thirty films for the programme, five of these were screened at the 1996 ~Toronto TV festival.
