Astronomical equipment. 18th-century journal page illustrating a celestial globe (upper left) and an equatorial telescope (centre) by the Scottish astronomers James Ferguson (1710-1776) and James Short (1710-1768) respectively. This page is from volume 10 of the 1756 edition of 'The Philosophical Transactions', an abridged collection of papers from the Royal Society. The original papers were published by Ferguson and Short in 1747 and 1749 in volumes 44 and 46 of 'Philosophical Transactions'. They were elected Fellow of the Royal Society in 1763 and 1737.
