Markandeya ensnared by Yama’s pasha

Markandeya, ensnared by Yama’s pasha (noose), embraces a tall garlanded and bejeweled mukhalinga (a linga with a face). Simultaneously Shiva’s upper body emerges from the linga. The god carries in his upper right and lower left hands the trishula (trident), which he plunges into Yama’s body, with the mriga (gazelle) in his upper left hand and the damaru (hourglass shaped drum) in his lower right. Yama falls off his buffalo still holding the pasha in his hands.
